Fall Fishing

Cooling water temperatures re-energize fish in the fall.  Fly fishing for pre-spawning brook trout and salmon on rivers and streams is usually going strong by September 10.  And trout ponds provide reliable action through October.   River floats for smallmouth bass also remain productive through mid-October.

Brook trout fishermen should seriously consider coming to Maine in October.  Ponds that we dredge with sinking lines in August produce great dry fly action for super colorful fish in October.  Plus, our fall colors are at their peak, the blackflies are gone, and there is almost no fishing pressure.
