Green Drake Hatch

Green Drakes (Hexagenia) are large mayflies that provide legendary evening hatches on trout ponds from late June through mid-July (and beyond).  This is Maine’s most popular hatch because it consistently brings large brook trout to the surface.  When conditions are right, you’ll see the fish of your dreams aggressively gorging themselves on mayflies struggling to escape the water surface.  Evening Green Drake hatch fishing can be combined with fishing for trout in nearby streams or ponds during the day.

This is also a great time of year for bass fishing, so some people like to combine a Green Drake trip with a driftboat float for smallmouth bass on the Penobscot River (on a different day).
