Smallmouth Bass Fishing Maine

I live on the Penobscot River and am fortunate to have a world-class smallmouth bass fishery right at my door step.   The 50-mile main stem section of the river, along with it’s three major tributaries, offers a near endless variety of angling options.  I fish the entire Penobscot watershed between Medway and Bangor, and frequently catch more than 50 hard-fighting river bronze backs per trip. This is a beautiful area where we see bald eagles, osprey, deer and beavers nearly every day.

Smallmouth bass floats are my most popular guided trip because these fish are generally fairly easy to catch, and lend themselves well to both spin-fishermen, fly-fishermen, and to families with children.  Non-fishing spouses and companions also have a great time enjoying the scenery and wildlife found on the river.

Most of my bass fishing trips are run from a comfortable Hyde drift boat that has padded, swivel-seats and knee braces front and back. We usually spend most of our time fishing from the boat, but there are many shallow, braided sections of the river where we can get out and wade. One spot even provides the opportunity to catch landlocked salmon along with bass during certain times of year.

Full day float trips cost $500 for two anglers and include a shore lunch and all of your fishing gear.  Groups of 3 or more can also usually be happily accommodated.  Half-day trips cost $350.

I am fortunate to have easy access to a variety of great smallmouth bass fishing waters. There is also excellent largemouth bass and northern pike fishing in the area.  So I encourage people traveling from a distance to consider a multi-day booking in order to take advantage of our diversity of fishing options. I’d be happy to help arrange lodging for you.
