Manatee Lodge, Belize

Manatee Lodge sits at the tip of Gales Point, which is on the central Belize coast and many miles from anywhere.  I discovered it several years ago when looking for off-the-beaten-path tarpon fishing opportunities in Belize.  It’s really more of an ecotourism resort than a dedicated fishing lodge.  But it sits in very close proximity to some great tarpon fishing areas and can serve as a nice basecamp for anglers. 

This trip will be primarily focused on fly fishing for the juvenile tarpon in the 20 – 60 pound range that are found throughout the system of rivers and lagoons near the lodge.  And we will use seasoned local guides who live in the village. There is a warm spring (off-limits to fishing) within sight of the dock where both manatees and tarpon love to hang out.  Prime tarpon fly fishing spots are found only a short distance away. 

We have also caught some very nice snook, jacks, snapper and barracuda on previous trips.  Tropical bird life is abundant and seeing manatees is virtually guaranteed.  And miles of completely deserted ocean beaches can be found 20 minutes from Gales Point.

There are 6 double (or single) occupancy guest rooms that are large and airy and cooled by the nightly breezes that blow off the Caribbean Sea.  And all the beds that I’ve slept on so far have been comfortable.  

The spacious, open-air dining room sits 15 feet from the water and provides spectacular sunsets that can be viewed right from your table.  A traditional American breakfast is served here each morning and lunch is packed to take on the water. Dinners include chicken, ribs, locally caught seafood and more – all of which are prepared with a Belizean flair.

This trip will run from March 11 -14 2027 and include 4 nights lodging, 3 days of guided fishing, and all meals.  This package costs $2,250 (with a shared room / boat). 

Single anglers are welcome and will be paired up with other singles when possible. If anyone wants to stay longer and use the lodge as a basecamp for a few days of jungle hiking, birding, etc., that can be arranged.  As can additional days of guided fishing.
