This Fly Casting clinic is designed to provide students with enough skills to allow them to fish effectively on their own. I begin each session by showing people how to assemble their fly tackle, then demonstrate the elements of a four-point cast. This is a hands-on clinic, however, so most of your time will be spent with a fly rod in hand, working on your own fly casting.
Most instruction is done in small groups, but many individual casting improvement suggestions will also be offered. Video analysis of your casting stroke will be provided and proper loop control will be emphasized throughout the session.
Students are encouraged to use their own fly rod and reel at the casting clinic. But you should not purchase new equipment just to attend. If you indicate on the registration form that you want to borrow equipment, I will gladly provide a fly rod and reel for you to use. I offer this clinic as a full-day session that runs from 9am-3pm and costs $125 per student. My next fly casting clinic will be held in Old Town Maine on Thursday July 24, 2025.

My Introduction to Fly Fishing class is a great companion to this Basic Fly Casting clinic. This class is held indoors during the winter months and will teach you the fundamentals of fly fishing so that you’ll be ready to catch fish in the spring. “I struggled with fly casting for years. I should have taken your course long ago .”
Tom R, Lincoln, ME
“I thought I would be self-conscious about having all of my casting mistakes recorded on videotape. But that turned out to be the most beneficial part of the course.”
