El Pescador Lodge – Sample Itinerary

This sample itinerary includes things that past clients have enjoyed.  But every group is different, and we can do as many, or as few, of these things as you want.  Planning our days in the sun will be part of the fun leading up to the trip. We can swap the order of the activities that I list.   Or you can look over the long list of other activities that El Pescador offers and make substitutions. This itinerary is just a starting point.   And keep in mind, it’s also fine to just sleep late and spend a day relaxing by the pool.  It’s vacation after all – right? 🙂

Wednesday – Travel day. Wednesday is usually lobster night at El Pescador, so we don’t want to be late for dinner!

Thursday – Sea kayak in the endless (quiet) lagoons that are accessed from a private dock right behind the lodge. I can lead this trip, and it will provide a good opportunity for anglers to practice their fly casting and fishing skills, before having to pay for a Belizean guide later in the week.

Friday – Beach picnic to Rocky Point. This trip goes with a (non fly fishing) Belizean guide and involves catching fish from the reef in the morning using spinning gear. The guide then prepares lunch (which includes the fish) on the beach at Rocky Point while group members swim, snorkel or relax. Then after lunch, the guide takes us to more beach spots to swim, snorkel, fish and finish the rum punch (which is included). Everyone loves this trip.

Saturday – Anglers do their first guided fishing trip while non-anglers take kayaks to a reef-side mooring ball for snorkeling. The non-anglers can also kayak in the lagoons out back, walk the beach in either direction to various beach bars, or take golf carts to the wonderful village of San Pedro for lunch / shopping.

Sunday – Anglers can do a second day of guided fishing while non-anglers do a snorkel trip to nearby Hol Chan marine reserve. Ambitious non-anglers can also do an off-site activity like cave tubing or visit Mayan ruins at Lamanai or Altun Ha. Less ambitious non-anglers can do a golf cart tour of beach bars (both north and south of El Pescador) or just lay around the pool in the warm Caribbean sun.

Monday – Caye Caulker is a nearby island (20 minute water taxi ride from San Pedro) that defines the laid-back Caribbean life style. Its streets are made of sand and the main modes of transportation are bicycles and walking. We can leave El Pescador after breakfast and spend the day exploring this wonderful island.   On my last visit, I did the afternoon snorkel trip to the nearby Caye Caulker Marine Reserve, where I swam with lots of nurse sharks and rays – it was great. We can also chill-out in one of my favorite beach bars on the planet. Or just sit under a palm tree and watch life go by at ‘The Split.’

Tuesday – This is our last day at El Pescador. Anglers could do a third day of guided fishing while non-anglers shop in San Pedro, kayak, snorkel, ride bikes or just relax on the beach.

Wednesday – We will depart from El Pescador after breakfast.
